The Architect is On Duty

First, I want to apologize for not updating the Look of The Week in a while. You know how Looklet is going now and i understand that we can't create any new look until next month... It gets me crazy, too (but i suggest you play in polyvore which its fun is just as much as looklet; find me at reenz).

Besides, i'm in an architectural project now, a small house which needs lots attention. It may takes a month and my new villa project will come. Just wish that everything will run good so i can manage this blog like it used to be...

For now, just enjoy Petra fashion style and vote for our next Featured Stylist ^-^

NEWSFLASH FROM LOOKLET

miss otis has received this email from looklet a couple of weeks ago.
'We understand that you are very upset. We can not do more then what we are doing at the moment. We are updating the magazine and installing a security system and things like that take time. It's not only the website we are working on, we have close we have to photograph and models to cast for the website. We are inventing our own system that no other company has, so it takes time...

Xoxo,
The Looklet team.'

Inspiring designers (2)

Have you heard the name of Petra Storrs, Um Nakao, Alexandra Zaharova and Ilya Plotnikov? If not, then you must see these:

Now, note this: paper is not only to design on but is also be a great material for fashion creativity!!
It is now showing up in all those beautiful architectural incarnations...
Would you ever wear a dress like those above? Well, dresses might be out of the question but paper fashion accessories such as pins or jewelry seem like they would be totally wearable ^-^

But honestly, the dress I wore in the picture below was a paper (self-designed) and i looked like a gift with that orange paper bow. LOL!

Petra, Jordan

Petra or Al-Batral in Arabic; meant rock; is a historical and archaeological city in the Jordan that is very famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduits system. Hidden behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains, boasting incomparable scenes, it became the most majestic and imposing ancient site still-standing nowadays. Established around the 6th century BC, it is a symbol of Jordan as well as being the most visited tourist attraction. It lies on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba). Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985 and been described as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage". It was also chosen by the BBC as one of "the 40 places you have to see before you die".

And for me, “Petra was designed to strike wonder into all who entered it”.

Is Zaha Hadid Now In Fashion Industry?

What a title!
Just about 2 years ago, i got so impressed on every woman who could be success in her architecture career. Honestly, after 2 years, i find it it's not easy to stand and keep moving as a woman architect, moreover when you're a "devote" family woman (*self satire).

But this lady could blow my thought 2 years ago:

Zaha Hadid
I saw some of her architectural designs through some lectures and I felt sooo amaze. I called her design fluid architecture that time, followed by thougt "could them be built?". But then we see the Zaha Hadid’s Chanel Mobile Art in 2008 which is a mobile museum to showcase artwork by a number of contemporary artists. The mobile museum is made of hundreds of fibreglass which are easy to assemble and dissemble, and had been toured around the world, from Tokyo, Hong Kong, to New York, London, Paris and Moscow.

The fabulous creative director of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld’s project the surreal fashion center “Mobile Art” container is impossible to forget. The name the German fashion designer, also called the genius kid of fashion, chose was Zaha Hadid. The appearance of the vehicle, for which Hadid selected bright white fiberglass as the material, reminds a fluid thing. The inside of it is designated as an interactive exhibition field.

It seems these weeks, months, even years, you can’t really flip or scroll through an art, design, fashion, construction, or even travel magazine and blog, without a mention of her prestigious firm. She exceeded the boundaries of the Architectural discipline well beforehand. The fashion and design world is now facing the hurricanes of Hadid, not to mention fluid, dynamic and complex designs, seem to be relentlessly coming to a city near you. Here are some of the designs...

Today I found this very interesting dress in Looklet. It's so geometrical and full of texture beyond the black color; makes it looked a dynamic dress:

Then I found some interesting looks made by the Lookleters. They styled the dress with some other tops, bottoms, and accessories till it become "a new dress":

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca site. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 Km northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World.

Quoted from: http://younghearts2.tumblr.com/post/5849929315/machu-picchu-peru
Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary buildings are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. These are located in what is known by archaeologists as the Sacred District of Machu Picchu. By 1976, thirty percent of Machu Picchu had been restored. The restoration work continues to this day.

The Incas started building the "estate" around AD 1400, but abandoned it as an official site for the Inca rulers a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of what the structures originally looked like.

Since the site was never known to the Spanish during their conquest, it is highly significant as a relatively intact cultural site. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

My First Trial - Not Error

This picture was made by me, using Adobe Photoshop:

I really wanted to create a look for any glam party such wedding by combining all the modern style but looked so glam ethnic in the end. From 3 of my collection pictures (sorry that i didn't note the sources), then i "cut and stick" each of their elements all to one. The effects themselves were made by these instructions: "poster edge - smudge stick - rough pastel". You may set the value according to your taste. Happy Photoshop-ing!

My Daily Life

We can't always get what we want because sometimes what we get is what we need. And I am now is in "grey situation". I want this job so much since i was still in high school, but the fee is really not "suit and comfortable" in my age now (24).

One of my name card design for a catering company
I am now in design field, work 8 hours (+1 rest hour, means 9 hours) a day from monday to saturday with about $100 a month. Compared with my ex-job, my fee now is only a half part of it. But when i remember my days in my ex-job, EACH DAYS OF A YEAR IS A DAY OF ITCHES ON MY SKIN (kind of psychosomatic because i never wanted to work there). Well, i call it now dualism of life. It looks very well when we look at it as a whole, but then being so crap when we look at it as pieces of needs.

You make the choice, dears!

Composing Line

Literal lines do not exist in nature, but are the optical phenomena created when objects curve away from the viewer. Nonetheless, line-like shapes are for all intents considered line elements by the artist; for example, telephone and power cables or rigging on boats. Any such elements can be of dramatic use in the composition of the image. Additionally, less obvious lines can be created, intentionally or not, which influence the direction of the viewer's gaze. These could be the borders of areas of differing color or contrast, or sequences of discrete elements, or the artist may exaggerate or create lines perhaps as part of his style, for this purpose. Many lines without a clear subject point suggest chaos in the image and may conflict with the mood the artist is trying to evoke.

Lines at infinity

Movement is also a source of line, and blur can also create a reaction. Subject lines by means of illusion contribute to both mood and linear perspective, giving the illusion of depth. Oblique lines convey a sense of movement and angular lines generally convey a sense of dynamism and possibly tension. Lines can also direct attention towards the main subject of picture, or contribute to organization by dividing it into compartments.

. Straight lines
Straight lines are called linear when used in a piece of art work. Straight lines add affection and can make it look more detailed and challenging. Horizontal, vertical, and angled lines often contribute to creating different moods of a picture. The angle and the relationship to the size of the frame both work to determine the influence the line has on the image. They are also strongly influenced by tone, color, and repetition in relation to the rest of the photograph. Horizontal lines, commonly found in landscape photography, can give the impression of calm, tranquility, and space. An image filled with strong vertical lines tends to have the impression of height, and grandeur. Tightly angled convergent lines give a dynamic, lively, and active effect to the image whereas strongly angled, almost diagonal lines generally produce tension in the image. Viewpoint is very important when dealing with lines particularly in photography, because every different perspective elicits a different response to the photograph. By changing the perspective only by some degrees or some centimeters lines in images can change tremendously and a totally different feeling can be transported.

. Curved Lines
Curved lines are generally used to create a sense of flow within an image. They are also generally more aesthetically pleasing, as we associate them with soft things. Compared to straight lines, curves provide a greater dynamic influence in a picture. In photography, they can give gradated shadows when paired with soft-directional lighting, which usually results in a very harmonious line structure within the image.
